A Britannia Silver Tankard
A lovely Britannia silver tankard ny Matthew Lofthouse, London, 1718, in Queen Anne style. The body of the tankard with full hallmarks and also the lid having a full set. Interestingly the maker's mark for Matthew Lofthouse resembles the date mark for 1708, but in this case, there is enough of the maker's mark to reasonably attribute it to Lofthouse. There also is a stamped mark on the bottom for Lambert, Coventry. Lambert was a plate dealer in the early 19th century in London who seemingly retailed this tankard and added his mark to the bottom. The armorial, which is contemporary is apparently for the Bradshaw family. A wonderful example. $8500.00 CDN SOLD
