George III serpentine chest of drawers
A fine serpentine chest of drawers, ca. 1790, attributed to Gillows of Lancaster. The pattern for this chest found in a sketch book by Thomas Briscoe, worker for Gillows. The chest has all the attributes of Gillows, finest veneers, mahogany secondary wood, paneled back with dovetailed sides that hold a solid mahogany top. The brasses are original and the top drawer houses a writing slide with greenm leather cover and compartments for various supplies. The French feet are seen on many Gillow's pieces. Ca.1790, The top has been refinished and no longer has any imperfections. $8500.00
